Father’s Day Drink Ideas

Sin Cyn

Like a father who is firm yet fair, this elegant (yet simple) scotch cocktail is the perfect marriage of strength and balance. To ensure a smooth and silky consistency, James Bond need not apply. The Sin Cyn should be stirred, not shaken.

Ingredients
1 ounce scotch
1 ounce Cynar
1 ounce vermouth

Instructions
In a mixing glass, combine all the ingredients with ice; stir until well-chilled.
Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.

Bicicletta

For the Dad with a lighter, sweeter side - this cocktail is as easy to mix as riding a bike. Expert tip: the better the wine, the better the cocktail.

Ingredients
3 ounces dry white wine (i.e. pinot grigio)
2 ounces Campari
Soda water, chilled
Garnish: 2 orange wheels

Instructions
In a double rocks or wine glass, combine wine and Campari
Fill the glass three-quarters with ice, top with soda water, and stir gently.
Garnish with two orange wheels.

Hemingway Daiquiri

Named for the literary legend, this cocktail is a scribe’s take on the classic Daiquiri - or so the story goes. The combination of rum, maraschino liqueur, and citrus makes a delicious drink perfect for storytelling. Be prepared for Dad to tell the tales of your childhood you hoped he would forget.

Ingredients:

2 ounces white rum
½ ounce maraschino liqueur
¾ ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
½ ounce freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
Garnish: lime wheel

Instructions
In a shaker, combine all ingredients with ice and shake until well-chilled.
Strain into a coupe glass.
Garnish with a lime wheel.

Beermosa

Sometimes all Dad wants is to have a beer and chill. A sophisticated take on the Brass Monkey (made famous by the Beastie Boys), the Beermosa uses a chilled glass and cold lager versus 40 ounces of warm malt liquor.

Ingredients:

12 ounces light lager
4 ounces fresh orange juice
Garnish: orange wheel

Instructions
Fill a chilled beer glass with lager, top with orange juice.
Garnish with an orange wheel.

Whiskey Smash

For the dad that doesn’t take himself too seriously, consider this summer bourbon classic. Cool yet unpretentious, you can picture Dad sipping this cocktail lounging on the patio or catching a baseball game on TV.

Ingredients:

3 lemon wedges
2 ounces bourbon
3/4 ounce simple syrup
4 mint leaves
Garnish: mint sprig

Instructions
In a shaker, muddle the lemon wedges.
Add bourbon, simple syrup, mint leaves, and ice; shake until well-chilled.
Double-strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
Garnish with a mint sprig.
